Fall Whites

by

Can my Thanksgiving table still wear white after Labor Day? This year I’m going for a creamy neutral setting with hints of soft blue and grey for my family feast.

What do you think? Need help getting prepared for Thursday, follow our Thanksgiving Timeline (1& 2, 3, 4.) I just ironed my napkins and bought all my baking ingredients and pantry snacks.

Wyatt in Martha Stewart Living Magazine

by

I’m so proud of my little brother Wyatt for making it into this month’s Martha Stewart Living (Nov 2012). His name isn’t credited but his sculpture in unmistakable in the Flora Grubb Gardens spread on page 161.

Here are the giant grass sculptures featured on his Wyatt Studio website.

Now Buck, Bobby and I have to work extra hard to get Martha to notice us and give Wyatt his own feature. Maybe an Ellison sibling spread?

Pumpkin Patch

by

Thanks to a hot tip from friends I visited the BEST pumpkin patch today. Forneris Farms is just outside of LA in the Valley. A family run farm who sets up a mini fall carnival with tons of pumpkins at very affordable prices, a big corn maze and lots of yummy food. Most of the gourds I bought are for a work event but I found a few favorites to liven up our home for the season.

love the muted palette of these greys, whites and salmon hued pumpkins

Here is how I arranged them in my home…

Such a satisfying weekend activity. Pumpkins, check.

Will & Niki’s Wedding

by

Drew and I were in a wedding this summer that was SO special and it now being featured on GreenWeddingShoes.com. Go look at all the thoughtful details and fun touches the couple dreamed up. Below are some of my personal favorites captured beautifully captured by One Love Photography.

One Love Photography

The coolest wedding venue, Santa Margarita Ranch in San Luis Obispo, CA (no relation to the pinot grigio).

One Love Photography

How amazing are these invitations Niki dreamed up and a friend designed? The double gun heart is a personal highlight for me.

One Love Photography

The bride rocked a J.Crew wedding dress with hot pink nails and lips and the grooms and his men wore gingham.

The groom found these screen doors and made the pinwheels out of paper himself. How cute is that? They framed the couple during the ceremony under that massive oak tree.

One Love Photography

The bride bought these assorted pom poms and we stuffed them into wax bags sealed with a cool DIY printer labels.

One Love Photography

Lemonade and Sweet Tea greeted guests and the signature drinks after the ceremony were strawberry-vodka and margaritas served in jam jars.

One Love Photography

Mini succulents (bought online and potted by friends) were the escort cards and the favor, so clever.

One Love Photography

Hands down my favorite detail was the names of the tables, Southern expressions from the bride’s colorful father, printed on cool card stock and glued to wooded sticks. If you have a daddy with expressions this good you must incorporate them into your wedding! Friends also potted those succulent centerpieces about a week before the wedding. Drew was in charge of placing the little rocks in the arrangements, don’t they look perfect?

One Love Photography

A twinkle lit barn streaming in twilight, the perfect setting for the delicious Southern Comfort food menu. To protect our party cloths from fried chicken and mac n’ cheese we had paper bibs! See them hanging from the plate, have fun and get messy indeed.

One Love Photography

Dessert was a pie and ice cream extravaganza which I did not eat because I was dancing. Nothing beats a RedShoe dance party, not even pie.

Congratulations Will & Niki!

Who’s Afraid of Wallpaper?

by

via

Me.  Wallpaper costs more than paint and you have to hire someone to hang it right.  At least I would.

But isn’t it happy and bright?

via

These peonies look old-ladyish.  Exactly what comes to mind when you think “wallpaper”, right?

Except in real life, they are drop-dead gorgeous. Not claustrophobic and fuddy-duddy, just cool and fresh.

via

The wallpaper that started my obsession.  Like a fading shot of your most treasured day, it tugs at my heartstrings.   And it’s wallpaper, friends.  Wallpaper.

The caramel deliciousness of that headboard and all the bright white doesn’t hurt. But it’s the wallpaper that gets me, even three years after I first pinned the picture.

What do you think?  Is wallpaper worth the commitment?

Duchess Catherine’s Olympic Fashion

by

I’m sad the Olympics is over, I was really inspired by the excitement of the games. Before this Olympic cycle fades into history I would like to give a gold medal to Duchess Catherine for her outfits during the 2 weeks of events in London.

She attended the games almost everyday and ALWAYS wore some variation on red, white and blue to support Great Britian. I read she re-wore the same clothes most days so as not to attract media attention to her outfits and take away from the athletes. Classy.

Let’s be honest, it it hard to make a polo shirt look this good.

More details on her outfits here. What do you think of her preppy patriotic look?

Thank You?

by

Kate Spade rose print card via

Hello, I love you.  From your chic stripes to your bursts of rose-colored happiness you seem tailor-made to convey an idealized version of me, in words.  I want to take you home, dress you in a special stamp, and send you back out to those I love.

There’s only one problem.  Why do you say Thank You?

Seriously.  I just saw you couched in your kelly green box at the stationary store.  You and your similarly stunning friends were decked out in the same sentiment.  All of you lined up and waiting to be filled with thoughtful notes.  The only caveat being that they begin with a pro-forma thank you.

The store only carried one single box of non-scripted note cards.  And they were nowhere near as pretty as you.

Where’s the freedom? What if I want to use you for something other than a thank you?  Or- and this is the actual case today- I want to be the one to write that thank you?

So, my friends, where do you stand?  Do you miss having more blank options or do you prefer specialized cards?

Deck Towel News

by

Forgive me for being proud big sister lately but I’m OBSESSED with the new Deck Towel designs this season, care of my baby brother Buck Ellison. I couldn’t resist sharing them.

Quinten

Sylvester

Ordering all 4 to use for long beach days, park picnics and as a table cloth for al fresco dinners. Since he’s working towards his Masters in Fine Arts in Germany I love catching up with him via the Deck Towel Journal. The Studio Lunches sing to me from so far away.

Truly these towels are so useful (absorbent, fast drying, wrap your whole body yet can bundle up so small) Drew and I are shifting over to them as our bathroom towels. Don’t let summer pass with out getting your favorite Deck Towel print.

Final Nursery Inspiration

by

via

This is so not a nursery.  I am aware of that.

It is, however, a calm room in the very same color as my nursery with the very same rug.  It’s relaxing and it’s neutral.  I’d like to spend time there.

And so it has served as my nursery inspiration as I’ve begun ordering and buying and hanging sweet things.  My theory is this- I build a big girl room with neutral pieces and layer in tons of cuddly, colorful baby stuff.  When she’s older she can thrown in whatever she wants and the basics will hold.

(I am also aware that babies destroy all theories.  Still.)

You can find my inspiration board here.

What do you think?  Animal overload?
