Simple Turkey Baguette Sandwich

This turkey sandwich is a staple in the Ellison family when entertaining a crowd. All my brothers and I could whip this up by the time we were 9 years old. No pool party, impromptu family lunch or trip across the lake in Tahoe was complete with out this sandwich in tow. With 4 kids and our many friends and family always around we usually made 3 of these at a time.

My brother Buck wrote up the recipe below for our cousin who fell in love with this on her last trip to Marin.

Turkey Baguette Sandwich

serves 4-6

Fresh French Baguette- not sourdough, don’t try to cut corners here, not that spongy American crap
Tomato- thinly sliced
Avocado- thinly sliced
Mayo- Best Foods/Hellman’s or bust
Dijon mustard
Red Onions- thinly sliced and very sparsely distributed
Turkey- oven roasted or Boars Head cracked pepper
Pepper jack cheese
Romaine lettuce
Pepperoncinis- roughly chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Slice the baguette horizontally into two long pieces. Slather one side of the bread with mayo and the other with Dijon. Top with meats, cheese and vegetables and salt and pepper to taste. Place the top on the heaping sandwich and slice into 2 inch portions, cutting on the diagonal to make it pretty. Serve immediately.
